Empowering Leaders, Equipping
Workers
|
 |
| Background: |
When the Communists’ took over in 1949, China had one million believers. As the Bamboo Curtain started to pull back in the 70’s, everyone was amazed to find the church had literally exploded, despite severe persecution.
Today, the Church in China is approximately 75 million and covers the whole spectrum, with over 13,000 official Three-Self churches mostly in the cities and towns. The dynamic mission minded non-registered house churches, in the hundreds of thousands, mostly in the countryside. Home groups that nobody can count, and the expatriate gatherings of every kind, are also springing up everywhere. The good news is, everyone is growing; and AO is serving with all of them.
In 1969, we started our ministry to China, by producing radio broadcasts, translating and publishing “A New Bible for the New China” which is still appreciated today, bringing in Bibles and literature, and supporting churches and workers.
In the 1980’s, we started sending in teams to train workers and leaders of the fast growing Church, and set up footholds in China. From the 1990’s, AO’s modus operandi has changed to serving with China’s Church. |
