Genesis - AO Mongolia

Impacting emerging Mongolia by strengthening the Church and building the community.

background:
Historically it has been a land loyal to Genghis Khan, then oppressed by the military rule of Imperial China, and for 70 years by Communist Russia. When the Russians suddenly pulled out in 1990, they left behind an impoverished and devastated nation. Asian Outreach teams ventured into Mongolia immediately to explore how we could bring the gospel to this country, which had been solidly closed for 72 years. After traveling the length and breadth of this vast landmass, they discovered that at most there were five Christians in the country—three expatriates and two Mongolians. There were no churches, no Bibles, no Christian books...
The sudden shift from communism to democracy, from a controlled to a free market economy has led to severe social problems. Industry and agriculture collapsed, alcoholism and crime increased. Unemployment reaches up to 65% in some areas. Over 36% of Mongolians live in poverty (less then US$13 per month income). It is a nation needing hope and answers.
Asian Outreach was one of the first Christian mission organizations to pioneer in Mongolia
