Winning Asians for Christ ∙ Asians Winning for Christ

Background:

Vietnam is a one-party communist state that has one of south-east Asia's fastestgrowing economies. Its goal is to become a developed nation by 2020. Historically Vietnam has not been free from conflict for 22 centuries; first fighting off invasion from the Chinese then in the last century fighting for independence from the French and Japanese. In 1954 Vietnam became a divided nation. Ho Chi Minh's communist government ruled the North from Hanoi and the regime in the South was supported by the United States. In 1975 the communists took over the whole nation and Vietnam became closed to the outside world. Hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese fled to countries of refuge as ‘boat people.’ Many found Christ and have returned to Vietnam with a vision to reach their nation.
In 1990 Asian Outreach sent a team to Vietnam to pray. By divine appointment they met with local church leaders. The heart cry of the church was for Bibles and training. Asian Outreach sent teams to courier Bibles through the borders to the waiting Christians in Vietnam. In 1995 the GCI program was launched and continues to be a strong focus of the ministry in Vietnam today training pastors and church planters. Today there are Asian Outreach teams based in the South and in the North.
