empowering and transforming the lives of needy Asians for the past 40 years.
Operating in 18 nations across the region, Asian Outreach functions holistically
to offer diverse initiatives to disadvantaged and developing communities.

About Asian Outreach

Founded by Paul Kauffman and David Wang in 1966 as a one room office in Hong Kong, Asian Outreach has always been at the forefront of providing hope, practical help and training to Asia's most remote people groups. Asian Outreach was among the first to respond to the physical and spiritual needs of the oppressed Chinese during the Cultural Revolution of 1966-1976 and those of the Vietnamese in 1975 following the end of the Vietnamese War. As well, Asian Outreach was one of the first groups to return to Cambodia in 1979 following the end of the Khmer Rouge dictatorship. Sailing up and down the Mekong River from 1993, our "Boat of Hope" contained a medical clinic, ambulance, food and other essentials and resulted in thousands of saved lives.  
 
Today, the history of Asian Outreach action and caring continues but on a much larger scale. Asian Outreach has 27 offices worldwide offering support and coordination to the "on the ground" frontline programs. Our work is run by a unique alliance of community leaders and local workers and our influence spreads into all levels of society.  The one-man operation has expanded to over 330 full time paid staff and 320 full and part time volunteers.
 
Asian Outreach expresses its vision through six integrated programs focused on transforming lives in Asia. The programs are: Health, Education, Community Development, Spiritual Development, Leadership Training and Literature & Resources. We believe that in order to live to the fullest potential, a person's life must change inside and out - physically, emotionally, economically, educationally, spiritually and socially. Therefore, each of the six programs focuses on one area of transformation. Indigenous vision combined with knowledge provided by outside experts has allowed Asian Outreach to work with locals to effectively provide practical long term solutions to their real needs.

While these programs are varied they are similar in their emphases on teaching the younger generation, providing opportunities within the communities and developing local leaders in order to provide sustainable change. With four decades experience in Asia as a pioneering, partnering and capacity building organization, Asian Outreach is a large, diverse NGO placed to continue playing a key role in an increasingly changing and challenging region of the world.
